    Movies Of Our Generation!
Movies have always been a popular pastime for any age, and with all the different genres, there is always something for everyone. No matter how advanced technology gets, there will always be a local theater around somewhere. We've moved from Shakespeare's plays in the 1500's, to the first black and white movies in the 1800's, leading to colored movies in the early 1900's, and the popular drive-in's in the 1960's and 70's. After all the trials and errors throughout the long history of entertainment, we are left with the theaters that are sprinkled around everywhere.
    {1194501aa.jpg} Avatar
Recently, a movie was released that was said to be the best movie since the Titanic, and it was directed by the same director, James Cameron. Cameron came up with the Avatar film idea 15 years ago in 1995 when the technology that was necessary to fulfill the full potential of what he wanted the movie to be was unavailable. When the technology became advanced enough to produce the movie in the way Cameron intended he began putting together the epic science-fiction movie. After four years of producing and slaving over the new technology that was needed to create the movie Cameron envisioned, the film was finished. On December 18th, 2009, history was made again by Cameron when the film made $2,350,388,502 worldwide within a very short amount of time. The gross profit for the film is, as of now, $745 million, beating out Titanic for the most gross money-making movie of all time by $145 million. It won the Golden Globe for best motion picture, and was nominated for others as well. This movie is presently the most popular science fiction movie.
Another movie was released recently that was a big hit among all ages. Disney/Pixars "Up" is an adventure about a 78 {up-poster-2.jpg} Up!year old widowed balloon salesmen who want to fufill his and his wife's life-long dream by parking a house on the cliff of a mountain in South America. Fredrickson learns all too late that 9 year old Russell, a local Wilderness explorer, has stowed away on his porch. The two meet many new friends along their long journey, including Doug, a golden retriever with a scientifically altered color and Kevin, a bird that Doug is sent to hunt. As they buckle down for a long journey, Mr. Fredrickson remembers what it's like to love and forgive. This movie is surely more of a family flick, as opposed to Avatar, a science fiction lovers dream come true. It won both Golden Globes that it was nominated for, including Best Original Score- Motion Picture and Best Animated Feature Film. The movie was released May 29, 2009, and was an instant hit, raising $292,979,556 in the box office. Rotten Tomatoes Movie Review critics gave the movie a 95% fresh review, meaning that out of the 35 critics that reviewed the film, only 2 gave it a bad review.
    {new-moon-movie-poster-s.jpg} New Moon
Another popular movie recently released on DVD titled New Moon also took reached the top of the box office. It is the second in it's series, and grabbed an audience of not only movie lovers, but book lovers as well.It raised the most money ever at its midnight premeieres all around the world, and rocked the charts for weeks after its release. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stuart play Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, characters adapted from Stephenie Meyer's New York Times' best selling Twilight saga. The movie made over 250 million worldwide, and now that the movie is out on DVD,the profit is sure to rise again. New Moon became the most money making opening night ever, and over half of the total theaters showing the movie were sold out at least a week before the actual showing. The next movie in the series, Eclipse, is expected to rake in an even bigger income for Summit Entertainment, and movie goers everywhere are waiting anxiously for the big release: 7/30/10.
Two great names: Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. The two together: Alice in Wonderland. In case you've been in a coma for the past 6 {AIW_3RD_Triptych_Center_small.jpg} Alice in Wonderlandmonths, Alice in Wonderland was released on March 5, 2010. Not suprising to many viewers, it gained $34.5 million it's opening weekend, plus it has held the number one box office spot for three weeks and counting. Alice is different from other Disney movie interpretations in the way that a "raven is like a writing desk". Number 1: It's out there, and number 2: it's not a remake, it's a sequel. Alice is thrust back into Wonderland on the day of her not-so-planned engagement party, and discovers that things are not always, in fact, rarley are, what they seem. As she travels through Wonderland making friends(and enemies), she learns about who she is, and who she wants to be as a person. As she works her way through the not-so-new to her world, she learns more about being herself and standing out then she ever would have imagined, and begins to believe that imagination is not something to be ashamed of, but something to relish and rely on. Mia Wasikowska plays Alice Liddel, the protaginist, while Helena Bonham Carter plays her opposite,The Red Queen, but those are not the only stars in the must-see movie. Johnny Depp plays the Mad Hatter, and Anne Hathaway plays The White Queen.

    Hair Styles Of Our Generation!
Guys Hair: Simply done is most common among guys in this age group, this one is the simplest to style, beating out even the pony tail! All that is done for this hairstyle is getting out of bed and starting your day. For a longer lasting bed head look, gel can be used, but most guys in this age group could care less about what their hair looks like, as opposed to the super fashion-conscious girls.
    {ponytail-for-cheerleaders.jpg} PonyTail
The Ponytail: Timeless, simple, and sporty. The ponytail is a popular and easy way to do your hair, needing only an elastic to style. Great for keeping your hair out of your eyes during sporting events, ponytails are super popular among athletes. Add a bubble for a stylish touch, or your bangs down for a simpler look.
    {messy-updo.jpg} Messy Bun
Messy Bun: The messy bun is somewhat newer then the age-old ponytail, but just as popular and simple. Easily styled in under 10 minutes, the messy bun is good for mornings where you are short on time. Once again, a bubble or bump can be added to give the bun a more elegant look.
St {deion4.jpg} Straightenedraightned: This style is simple, but takes more time unless you have naturally straight hair. Straightened hair is stylish and easy with thinner hair, thick hair is more difficult and time consuming. A heat protetant is recomended to prevent breakage, and a straightner is all thats nessessary for this simple style. The effect of straightning makes thick hair seem thinner, adding to the lure of the style.
    {IMG_2900.JPG} Scrunched Hair
Scrunched: This easily-done hairstyle is completed by using gel to curl your hair quckly. It works great no matter what your hair type is. It can be easily done in not too much time. When your hair is wet, si results, scrunched hair is a popluar look for girls in this age group. mply add some gel and comb your hair through your fingers. Quickly done and with good

    Home Books Of Our Generation!
A survey was sent out to schools in central Iowa asking teens (ages 13-14) what their favorite book series and titles were. The most common result of the series survey was the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer.
    {twilight_book_cover.jpg} Twilight
The Twilight phenomenon is taking the world by storm, and this is probably not news to any teenage girls, or, well, anyone interested in an addicting love story. The heart-throb vampire and outside-the-box human couple make normal relationship issues seem like nothing. The books are all based on the theme of the forbidden fruit, Bella being the nondescript human girl who is truly off limits to Edward, the hundred year old gorgeous vampire turned good. The saga consists of four books: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. Critics everywhere are raving about the series, and the movies hit the top of the box office every time a new installment is released. Recently, New Moon, the second book in the engrossing series was released, and shot right to the top of the box office the first day it was open to the public. The fan base of the highly successful series has grown a LOT since the movies have been released, and it will only get bigger as the rest of the movies are released.
The Alex Rider series by Anthony Harowitz, The Gossip Girl Series by Cecily Von Ziegesar, and House of Night series by P.C. and Kristen Cast are also very popular among the group of surveyed teens.
Anthony Harowitz writes about a 14 year old spy, Alex Rider, who usually is sent deep undercover for an agency, M-I6, that tries to expose evil plots conducted by fiends intent on destroying the world. As he travels around for the different operations M-I6 sends him on, Alex is forced to deal with regular teenage issues as well as the problems that arise concerning his job. Evil plots are everywhere as far as Rider is concerned, and that very factor makes the books so very captivating. Filled with constant action, readers will quickly be drawn into the fast paced life of Alex Rider and the relationships he makes, whether positive or negative.
    {http://www.wppl.org/teens/images/cast_marked.jpg} Marked
The House of Night series is about a special boarding school with an exclusive student population: NO HUMANS ALLOWED. This addicting series is about a group of friends fighting to keep their lives as normal as possible while living in a vampyre community. Main character Zoey Redbird has to deal with WAY more than the average sixteen year old should. Mean girls, the drama of boys, oh- and being dubbed the new High Priestess in Training are only a few of the things she gets to worry about. As Zoey struggles to merge the person she really wants to be, and the vampyre she is forced to be, she will be forced to make decisions that could change the way vampyres and humans live, and not necessarily for the better. The series consists of six books: Marked, Betrayed, Chosen, Untamed, Hunted, and the newest installation, Tempted. This exciting series is one you cannot stop reading, and the surveyed teens agree.
The Gossip Girl books are about a group of upper east side New Yorkers who love living the charmed life. Gossip Girl is a popular blogger whose identity is forever hidden as she reports what goes on in the large group of friends, enemies, allies, and traitors. You never know what the characters will do next, and suspense is common upon waiting for their next move. High school at Constance Billard is never boring to read about, and these exciting books are a must read for teens in this age group. The series is composed of many books featuring the main characters throughout their mischievous years of high school, but there is also a series that branches out from a character, Jenny, after she moves from Constance Billard to a new boarding school. The It Girl series is also very popular with kids in the surveyed age group.
{{5868D97D-8A5B-4457-9458-8AB7A6F81430}Img100.jpg} Where the Red Fern Grows
The most common book title is Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. This book is a heartfelt story about a boy living in the Ozarks bonding with his two hunting dogs who, like many loved pets, become his best friends. When one of the two dogs is killed by a mountain lion, and the other dies of a broken heart, the main character has to deal with the loss of his two closest friends. This book is a tear jerker for sure which could be why this is one of the most loved books of our generation.
Another popular book that came up in the series was A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer. A Child {images.jpg} Called It is a true story about a young boys struggle throughout his childhood as he deals with his abusive mother and recessive father. As he struggles to hide his abuse from teachers he is tormented everyday by his peers for the clothes he wears and his meek attitude. As Dave tries to remain himself and be strong through all the years of torture, he finally realizes that he doesn't have to put up with the mistreatment inflicted by his mother. Tears will surely come as you read about David's struggle to not let his parents control his life in such a horrible way. A very mature read for everyone, not just for 13-14 year-olds, but for everyone who is in the mood for an inspiring story
